Every year heritage buildings, venues and historic places right across the UK open their doors and host events that celebrate local history.
Heritage Open Days are a national initiative every September – this year on 11 to 20 September 2026 – and as a historic town, arguably Britain’s oldest recorded town as Colchester is now a city, loads of Ipswich buildings will be open for free events to celebrate!
Ipswich Maritime Trust is hosting a celebration on Ipswich Waterfront and loads more buildings across the town will be open to visitors thanks to the Ipswich Society, including the Ancient House.
