Travelling to Ipswich

Ipswich is easily accessible by train from London, Essex or Norfolk for a weekend away with Greater Anglia. At just over an hour on the train from London Liverpool Street Station, heading to the East of England to experience the leisurely country life in East Anglia really doesn’t take very long!

Ipswich is also easily accessible by car from the A12 and A14, with Park & Ride services available on the outskirts of the town for day trippers (at Martlesham on the west side and Copdock to the east).

There are also many town centre car parks within the town centre itself, historic waterfront and along Portman Road next to Ipswich Town Football stadium.

Travelling by Car

If you’re travelling in to Ipswich by car, Ipswich is easily accessible from London and the south (just 55 miles from the M25) via the A12 and from the Midlands and north via the A14.

The town centre also has great value car parks when you get here.

Travelling by Taxi

Taxis are available to get you around the town centre and surrounding areas.

Hawk Express Cabs is available on 01473 222222.

On Friday and Saturday nights, from 11pm to 4am, the Taxi Marshals operate from the Old Cattle Market, helping you get home safely from a night out. There’s no charge for this service. Just turn up and they’ll help you find a taxi to take you home.

Travelling by Bus

There are plenty of options to get into Ipswich by bus whether you’re looking to travel from home on the outskirts of town or by using the Park & Ride if you’re travelling from further afield.

Travelling by Coach

Ipswich is well served by National Express including four daily services from London and northern and western services, via Cambridge.

Travelling by Train

Trains from London Liverpool Street and Stratford reach Ipswich in around an hour. Northern and western services change at Peterborough for Ipswich.

Travelling by Bike

Getting on your bike is one of the easiest and most pleasurable ways to see and explore Ipswich.
