Holywells Park

28 hectares of picturesque grounds

Holywells Park is a beautiful community open space with stunning trees and ponds, with a history dating back to medieval times. The park is a County Wildlife Site, a Conservation Area with two listed buildings (the Stable Block and Conservatory). It is on the English Heritage Register of Historic Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest and is also a Regionally Important Geodiversity Site.

Holywells Park is close to the Waterfront and a short walk from both University Campus Suffolk and Suffolk New College.

The park has four main entrances, at Cliff Lane (IP3 0PG), Nacton Road (IP3 0NG), Bishops Hill (IP3 8EL) and Myrtle Road (IP3 0AL). Parking is available at the Cliff Lane entrance for Blue Badge and permit holders only. Non-Blue Badge or non-permit holders are not permitted to use the car park.

Within the park you will find a play area called Imagination Island, designed with water (Holy Wells) in the park as the main theme.

There’s a variety of exciting play equipment including Croc Creek bridge (watch out for the 3D crocodile!) dolphin and shark springers and a DiGBY the octopus seesaw!

There’s also the popular splash pad of water fountains open seven days a week (10am – 5pm) from May until September each year.

The Stable Block Visitor Centre and toilets are open every day from 10am – 5pm (1st May – 31st August) and 10am – 4pm (1st September to 30th April) with Bishops Café and Tearoom at the Stable Block Café is open daily from 8:30am.

You’ll also find Bishops Parlour in the Kiosk near to the play area open daily from 10am to 3pm serving refreshments and ice creams.

  • Victorian conservatory and outdoor classrooms available for hire
  • Walled garden with open air theatre space and maze
  • Teen area incorporating outdoor gym equipment, table tennis tables, kick wall and I’Play
  • Outdoor classroom and story-telling circle
  • Various walking trails
  • Ice house
  • Bowling green, home to Holywells Bowling Club

Holywells Park has an active Friends group which contributes to the park’s development and volunteering opportunities are also available at the park for schools and local businesses.
