Ipswich Portal

Monday 1st December - Wednesday 31st March

6am to 11pm at The Cornhill

Situated on Cornhill, the Portal is live daily from 6am to 11pm and uses live-streaming video technology to connect global communities. It enables people in Ipswich to see, wave, and interact in real time with others thousands of miles away.

The art sculpture is part of Digital Ipswich, a Town’s Fund programme delivered by Ipswich Borough Council. Created by Lithuanian artist and entrepreneur Benediktas Gylus, the Portal contributes to the town’s investment in digital innovation. It helps attract visitors, support local businesses, and showcase Ipswich as a forward-thinking, connected community.

Ipswich was the first place in the UK to have a portal. It connects to Ireland, USA, Lithuania, Poland and South America on rotation.
