Constable 250 Workshop: Portable Portraits

Thursday 9th April

10:15am, 11:15am, 1pm and 2pm sessions at Christchurch Mansion

On Thursday 9th April join Ipswich Art Society artist Sarah Jones to make a Portable Portrait on coloured round, oval, rectangular or take on the challenge of a ‘tondo’ (round painting). Using acrylic on cardboard we will take inspiration from Constable’s contemporaries, those before him and those around us in the gallery to compose a portrait dear to us today.

Please note, acrylic paint can stain, we advise wearing appropriate clothing and aprons will be provided.

Sessions are 45 minutes long and start at 10:15 AM, 11:15 AM, 1 PM, and 2 PM. All materials will be provided along with full guidance. This event is suitable for ages 5+. Younger children may need help from an adult. Under-16s must be accompanied by a parent or carer at all times.

This workshop will take place in the Great Hall, located on the ground floor. For helpful information, such as how to find us and what facilities Christchurch Mansion has, we recommend reading our Access information: Access at the Mansion

The Constable 250 project is made possible with The National Lottery Heritage Fund. Thanks to National Lottery players, we are able to deliver Constable inspired family holiday workshops March 2026 – March 2027.
