NightlifeImage.jpg?mtime=20170810121752#asset:9021Ipswich is home to a diverse range of hospitality establishments within its central area, each with their own selling points, whilst retaining an identity that are uniquely their own. Depending upon what you are looking for, you could be treated to anything from venues with a long and varied history, establishments serving extensive selections of international beers, spirits, cask marque ales and, of course, a wide variety of the finest foods, or simply those places offering the very best ambiences for the perfect night out. Whatever you are looking for, you will be sure to find it in Ipswich.

If you are looking for those establishments with a more historic feel, then P.J. McGinty & Sons on Northgate Gate is a great place to start. Dating back to the 17th century, the venue has a reputation for being haunted, and it is believed that its cellar contains a bricked-up entrance to labyrinthine tunnels beneath the town. A short stroll away is the Cock & Pye. Dating back to at least 1689, the origin of its name deriving from the barbaric practice of cock-fighting, this family-friendly and nighttime-friendly establishment has strived to attract a convivial clientele at odds with the history its name suggests. It is now known for the quality of its food menu, all at fantastic value for money.

Just a hop, skip and a jump from Christchurch Park, the Woolpack has a history to rival anywhere else in Ipswich.  It is claimed to be one of the most haunted pubs in the UK, with sightings of a range of characters, from naval captains to persecuted monks.  In recent times, this authentic family-friendly (and dog-friendly) venue offers the finest in home-cooked pub food to really warm the belly and the heart.  It is not the only establishment to offer fine-dining with a twist, or an extensive drinks selection to whet the palate for a great night ahead. Situated just off the Cornhill, Aqua Eight is an a la carte Asian fusion dining venue, with music and an ambience to match. A stone’s throw away, the Arcade Street Tavern has a wide selection of unique international beers, ales and stouts, a chilled but lively atmosphere, and always accommodating bar staff. The Dove Street Inn is widely believed to have the finest selection of real ales on draft, and has its own excellent beer festival at least 3 times a year. If you are looking for some of the best funk and food, then the K Bar and Steakhouse, situated in the ideal location of St Nicholas Street, may be the place for you. It also offers a fine choice of its own in-house spirits, and can always be relied upon to provide a relaxed but classy atmosphere.

In a similar vein, T.W.B. also has an extensive range of spirits, premium lagers, its own cocktail bar, and a fantastic outdoors smoking area. It also has the unique selling-point of being one of the few vape-friendly venues in town.
