An Evening with Julie Cunningham

Born in Liverpool and trained at Rambert School, Julie is an internationally recognised performer who spent many years working with Merce Cunningham in New York, before returning to the UK to join the Michael Clark Company. In 2016, Julie established their own company with the aim of finding new movement vocabularies, addressing questions of identity and challenging gender roles.

The evening will include m/y, performed by 6 dancers. The technicality of the movement language is contrasted by the fluid rules of relating, connecting and finding pleasure outside the dominant structures of patriarchal power. Referencing the novel, The Lesbian Body by Monique Wittig, m/y evokes a female physicality for the female gaze.
