The Willis Towers Watson Building

Ipswich is home to the Willis building, designed by the internationally renowned architect Norman Foster. The building was constructed between 1970 and 1975, and was said to be the start of a ‘high-tech architectural style’. The building is a unique shape, occasionally referred to  as 'the piano'  and sits next to the equally important Grade 1 listed Unitarian Meeting House. In 1991, the Willis Building was declared a Grade 1 building, meaning two of Ipswich’s most renowned buildings sit directly next to each other. When it was listed, it was one of only two buildings under the age of 30 to be given this status.
