4pm (for optional walk) 6.15pm talk starts at Ipswich County Library
Visit Ipswich County Library for our community residencies programme with our Environmentalist In Residence on Friday 11 October 2024.
In April this year, Martin Scaiff joined Suffolk Libraries as Environmentalist in Residence and began a six-month walking journey, connecting all 45 of Suffolk’s library venues, and collecting sound recordings along the way.
This event invites you to participate in a shared listening experience and hear Martin reflect on his participation in a residency with Suffolk Libraries. Martin will explain how he developed the Seconds of Sound audio library and shared his expertise in environmental sound with every day people arriving at the library.
Event format
6.15pm – Doors open, join us in the library, fizz and nibbles
6.30pm – The S.O.S ‘Nature Silent Disco’, shared listening experience
7pm – In conversation with Martin Scaiff, hosted by Sophie Green
7.30 – Audience Q&A, your chance to ask Martin questions
7.45pm – Network and goodbyes
Optional Walk
Ahead of the event, Martin will be leading a listening walk around Ipswich from 4pm. This is completely optional and free to attend. The walking route begins and ends at the library and is available to view here. This route is intended as a guide and may change slightly on the day, depending on the weather and inspiration drawn from the acoustic habitat.
