Show a little love

Show a little loveby Cathy Frost, LoveOne

With Valentine's Day fast approaching our thoughts turn to love and friendship. The gestures we make maybe significant and extravagant, for some it's an opportunity to just share the love, to celebrate a friendship or just send that mystery card!
Did you know the largest box of chocolates ever made weighed 3725lbs (1690kg)? It was 16ft long, 11ft wide and 3ft deep and created by Thorntons in 2008. This is perhaps a little extravagant for most!
For something a little more affordable, try Loveone's artisan chocolate from Creighton's, with interesting flavours such as Rhubarb & Custard and Violet or my neighbours at Applaud Coffee sell amazing cakes (a personal recommendation would be the sweet and salty brownie).
One of the most expensive rings ever made was the Peacock ring. Set with over 3000 diamonds and valued at £177,000. Obviously this is quite a budget consideration, but Mauds' Attic has some beautiful costume jewellery to chose from.
In fact the Saints has a number of quirky boutiques to tempt you, from jewellery to handbags, fashion for men and women. Pay a visit to neighbours Cake & Catwalk and the Italian Shirt Shop.
Food is often a gesture to show the love, the most expensive dessert ever created was a frozen chocolate ice cream sundae costing £12000. Made in the USA in 2007 it was made from a blend of the world's most expensive cocoas, decorated with edible gold and served in a gold lined goblet. A trifle over the top perhaps, but how about sampling some of the great world cuisine on the Saints -but book early! Start with cocktails at KBar, and then take your pick from Italian, Thai, Indian, Chinese or a great classic steak @twenty5.
So remember it's not all about the big and expensive gestures; small and beautiful, perfectly wrapped and hand-selected can mean a whole lot more.
Let the independent businesses on the Saints help with the decision making, the gift selection, a dining experience or a pampering treat.
We are bursting with ideas, it is the thought that counts .
