Historic Port of Ipswich

By Emma Lightfoot
Orwell River Cruises

Starting with the independent retail and coffee shops along St Peters and St Nicholas Street, walk to the waterfront along College Street and past Wolsey’s Gate – a piece of Tudor Ipswich – join the waterfront and have a look at The Old Customs House.

Have lunch at one of the many restaurants from Bistro on the Quay to Pizza Express, Isaacs to Waterfront Bistro – or for a real treat try Mariners, the floating restaurant.

In the afternoon take a trip on the Orwell Lady either to Pin Mill or Harwich Harbour and Port of Felixstowe. Public cruises come with a full commentary on the history of the port, Orwell Bridge and the River Orwell – if you’re lucky you might see the resident seals or the peregrine falcons that nest under the bridge.
